Queen-like rock guitar riffs pump the energy up in this rev-it-up pop/rock song about breaking away from the crowd, both literally and figuratively. The message is uplifting, sexy, and fun! Sammy Hagar’s cousin, Ken Tamplin, provided the vocals. TITLE: CHRISTMAS WRAPPIN’ GENRE: Rap/Novelty/Holiday VOCALS: The Christmas Wrappers DESCRIPTION: This is a funky, world beat, hip-hop, novelty rap tune that rings in holiday cheer! Composer/Performer Karen Soroca first got the idea for this rap Christmas carol while singing and musical directing for “The Caroling Company”, whose numerous on-camera film and TV credits included “Scrooged” and “The Addams Family”. Several years later, Karen reworked it with Janet, adding a hip-hop beat and some world beat instruments to create the fun song you hear today. “Christmas Wrappin’”, get your feet a-tappin’! TITLE: DANCE ON ICE GENRE: Pop VOCALS: Kelly Brown DESCRIPTION: Janet Marie wrote this synth-pop skating song that smoothly glides along just like the skaters we imagine performing it. The lyrical twist is it interweaves quotes from famous poems (e.g., Yeats and Blake) because as the song says, “it’s poetry in motion… when we dance (dance)(dance) on ice”! TITLE: DON’T’ CALL ME DESPERATE, NA UH! GENRE: Retro Jazz, 1920’s VOCALS: Mary Ann Halpin DESCRIPTION: This retro TV theme has a Roaring 20’s sound with a touch of Preservation Hall Dixieland. The instrumental version is called “23 Skidoo” and we can imagine the performer being yanked off the stage by a cane like they did in old vaudeville shows! TITLE: HAPPY HALLOWTHANKSMAS GENRE: Holiday/Novelty/A Cappella VOCALS: Karen Soroca & Friends DESCRIPTION: Composer/Performer Karen Soroca says: “As a child, I remember that each holiday had its own distinct flavor. Nowadays, it seems as if the holidays, starting with Halloween and ending with New Year’s Eve, have all become one big, mixed-up holiday. Pumpkins are on display side by side with Christmas lights and Thanksgiving is a quick nod in-between. So, I decided to rename this season ‘Happy HallowThanksmas’ and to write this spoofy, novelty, a Cappella holiday song to honor it.” TITLE: HIGHWAY 101 GENRE: Country Rock VOCALS: Christina Korp DESCRIPTION: In Los Angeles, “Highway 101” is also called “The Hollywood Freeway”, so in the song, Hollywood is the destination of a young girl who heads there. In a universal sense, this song is about letting go, moving on, and following our dreams, whatever they may be. Our vocalist really nailed it, and we had one of Bruce Springsteen’s top recording drummers, Gary Mallaber, play on the track. “Highway 101” is quintessential Soroca & Allocca. It features a rock beat, a memorable melody, a killer chorus, catchy lyrics and most of all, a positive, uplifting message for all. TITLE: THE HOKEY POKEY HIP-HOP GENRE: Hip-Hop/Children VOCALS: Brie Howard Darling DESCRIPTION: This kid-friendly song is an updated hip-hop version of the old standard Hokey Pokey but this time sung and rapped from a female point of view. It still makes you want to get up and “shake it all about.” Co-published with Sony Music. TITLE: LIVIN’ FREE IN THE U.S. OF A. GENRE: Country Rock/Patriotic/Americana VOCALS: Rick Dinsmore and the Marin Children’s Chorus DESCRIPTION: This patriotic song was recorded in part at world-famous Skywalker Sound in Marin County, CA. It features Johnny Cash-like lead vocals backed by the innocent voices of children. Musically, it is a fusion of Americana and Country Rock. Throughout the song are musical themes taken from old American folk songs such as “Oh Susannah”. The use of a fife and snare drum hark back to the days of the Revolutionary War. Add a driving rock beat into the mix and the song becomes a fusion of old and new…and a down-home celebration of freedom. TITLE: LOVE NEVER DIES GENRE: Renaissance, Funeral VOCALS: Karen Soroca DESCRIPTION: This heartfelt song was written to console a friend and help those healing from the tragic loss of a loved one. Karen created a beautiful, haunting melody quite reminiscent of the Renaissance and then added modal harmonies from that era. The Celtic harp, keyboard, wood flute and ukulele add a floating, ethereal feel to this song. TITLE: LOVE PATROL GENRE: R&B, Smooth Jazz VOCALS: not available DESCRIPTION: This sexy, Barry White sound-alike R&B theme was originally composed as the theme for an LA radio show on which Janet Marie was the host. Janet wrote the lyrics and teamed up with talented composer Bill Kole of Mission Control Productions, Inc. to get it produced. Since then, the theme has been used in several international TV commercials and promos. Here’s a quote from the tongue-in-cheek lyric: “There’s a search warrant out for your love-lost soul. Sooner or later, you’ll pay the toll. Admit it, baby, you’re out of control…so you better surrender to the Love Patrol!” TITLE: LOVELY LITTLE CAT GENRE: Smooth Jazz, Classical, Cabaret VOCALS: Karen Soroca DESCRIPTION: “Lovely Little Cat” is Karen Soroca’s sweet ode to a dearly beloved cat. It is sure to resonate with cat-lovers everywhere. It has an impressionist/classical feel, mixed with elements of smooth jazz brought out by the saxophone. The cello adds an especially haunting quality to this liltingly, lovely… little… song. TITLE: MAMA RAP GENRE: Rap/Novelty VOCALS: Pepper Mashay DESCRIPTION: Our co-writer, Sheila Marra, came to us with an idea and some lyrics for a novelty/rap song called “Mama Rap” in order to promote parenthood in a lighthearted and yet meaningful way. We loved the idea and turned it into a fun track, using original, rapped lyrics set to the music of “Drunken Sailor”, a great, traditional folk tune made famous by Burl Ives. TITLE: MEANT TO BE GENRE: Pop, Boy Band, Love Songs VOCALS: Julian Smith DESCRIPTION: This song about a heartfelt reunion of soulmates has a throwback pop feel. TITLE: NO OTHER LIKE YOUR MOTHER GENRE: Inspirational, Classical VOCALS: Karen Soroca DESCRIPTION: “No Other Like Your Mother” is a classically-influenced, inspirational song that describes the unconditional love a mother has for her child and the deep bond they share. Written and sung by Karen Soroca, the vocals are beautifully enhanced by the addition of piano and violin. The violinist is the very talented Ariel Horowitz, Karen’s cousin, who was a student of Itzhak Perlman while she attended Julliard. Ariel was only 17 years old when she recorded this. TITLE: THINKING OF YOU GENRE: Choral, Gospel VOCALS: Karen Soroca & Friends DESCRIPTION: This inspirational 4-part, choral work for voice and organ is dedicated to Karen’s Grandma Florence and all the people in our lives who continue to love, influence and guide us even if they are no longer here. We think it’s a rousingly good track. TITLE: WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME (THE WAY I LOVE YOU)? GENRE: R&B VOCALS: Maxayn Lewis DESCRIPTION: This song is a powerful, cathartic love ballad à la Whitney Houston with an R&B/smooth jazz influence. Its universal chorus echoes the sentiments of all those who have loved deeply, only to not have their feelings returned on the same level. The saxophone adds a sexy, yearning quality to this song. TITLE: WISE WOMAN GENRE: Country Rock VOCALS: Teresa James DESCRIPTION: This song is an anthem! It celebrates and empowers all women and all the vital roles they play throughout their lives. With its bluesy, guitar-laced, driving beat, it has a rockin’-out, Bonnie Raitt vibe.
